Big Girls Don’t Cry

tennis shoes

I’m fat.

I don’t mean phat.
I mean fat-fat.
As in thigh-rubbing, jiggly-butt, button-popping, don’t-sit-in-wicker-chairs, out-of-breath-at-the-top-of-the-stairs kind of fat.

For about a month now, I’ve been really using my tennis shoes (*see photo above), eating at home, drinking water, and avoiding my beloved cheese.
I <3 cheese. I had a commitment ceremony with cheese. I would marry it, but it’s illegal here in Georgia. I looked into it.

I’m down 13 pounds.
Oh, and I quit smoking. Smoking cigarettes. Don’t worry, I didn’t quit being smoking hot.

I haven’t mentioned my weight-loss endeavor on this blog before because I didn’t want to jinx it.
I hear Preggoes hold off on announcing their condition out of superstition and, like them, I wanted to make sure it “stuck” before letting anyone know what Jason and I were up to. Well, we’re “up to it” now and in full stride. I cook every meal (oh, the horror! I am a truly terrible cook), grocery shop every three days (eating a ton of fresh produce requires you to shop all the freaking time), and carry a Nalgene bottle like a security blanket.

Several years ago, I had a blog where I regularly chronicled my attempt to lose the extra pounds. It’s apparent now that I was not successful in that attempt, but c’mon, you’ve gotta give me a break – food tastes so darn gooooood. Mmmm…..
I collected some of those old posts to make for easier reading, should you be so inclined.

I’ll post periodic updates and make an effort to get some progress photos uploaded. Without a doubt, I’ll have one of me fitting my entire newly slim body into a single giant pant leg.
Just ain’t right to lose weight without taking a photo like that.

LillyDee Williams likes all the new activities we've been doing.

I know exactly how you feel! I have yo-yo’d my entire life. My husband and I both, as well as my sister and the rest of my family, have a life long struggle with weight. You can do it! Believe me, I know how hard it is to stick to a life style change. My husband and I started Weight Watchers at home after my sister had been going to meetings and loved it. She has lost almost 100 pounds!
I lost 100 pounds about 10 years ago, then gained most of it back. I began losing again before I got married in 2008, and I am still trying to maintain, if not lose. Being a woman sucks for weight loss, too, but the best we can do is just take it a day at a time and try to be positive. The being positive is hard for me, but having supportive people around helps :-)
I know you can do it, and you can ask me for recipes any time! We can support one another, ok! Good luck!

First of all, I want to say that I LOVE the look of your blog. It is so clean and the pictures are incredible! Secondly, I’m right there with ya being fat. And, I’m on a journey to lose weight. I just started though, so I’m only three lbs down. I completely cut out caffeine five days ago. (The horror!) I think I’ve made it pass the withdrawal, but it sucked the first few days! My biggest hurdle will be not eating out so much and to exercise more. (Heck, who am I kidding? I meant exercise…period.

Good luck! Keep it up!

You have company – we can all take comfort in that. Since getting married almost 5 years ago I have regained much of the weight I had managed to lose. I’ve had several foot surgeries which has been a major contributor.

Since early March I have been working on losing what I’ve gained. I have several motivations – the big one – we are planning the honeymoon we never took. We leave this fall to go to Bora Bora – I WILL look good in a bathing suit.

Hey girly, go get ‘em!! I enjoy a blog written by Cathy Zielske… she’s documenting her weightloss as well as a bunch of other fun stuff. You may wanna look it up for kicks and giggles. ;)

you are not fat OR phat

Melissa – I would have never taken you for a former fatty – hehe! Thanks for the encouragement, I’ll need it in the days to come…

Kim – I knew I was big in Japan, but Twitter?

Emily – 3lbs is nothing to scoff at – let’s keep it up!

Diana – I tried to convince Jason that my weight gain was all his fault, that he did this to me. But his weight gain is entirely his own fault.

Jamie – Thanks for the blog link – I will check it out…

Griffin – I beg to differ. I am, in fact, very fat. But I am also quite engaging and fabulous. You’d do well to remember that. :) I love you much and am glad you stopped by to see me…

I wish I had a dog…but a cat would be way cooler.

As an Asian dude, my “weight issues” are mainly on the opposite side of the scale: being too skinny. I mean skinny-skinny. As in I can fit a Southwest chair with one other person kinda skinny. Okay, maybe not that skinny. I’m 6 feet(alright, more like 5 feet 10.5 inch according to my doctor but I like to round up) but underweight for my height, which is around 140.

Funny thing I just realized. How come there are no blogs about gaining weight? I mean, wouldn’t that be a great change in scenery from the deluge of diet blogs circulating the web? I’d read it.

Shrug.

I can so relate! I have been doing Weight Watchers and lost about 15 pounds. I also recommend crack smoking. Works wonders.

And giving up cheese AND cigarettes? You are crazy!

Tony – A blog about gaining weight? Hmmm. You could be on to something. Something where people could go to leave crazy venom-filled comments. Can’t imagine a blog that would inspire more rage other than a blog dedicated to the humorless Jimmy Kimmel. :)

Kristina – Nice job, Chubs! Smoking crack is plan B. Decided to give this whole healthy eating/exercise thing a few weeks. If it doesn’t work, I am so on the pipe.

I’ve just started the couch to 5k program and am not going to blog about it for fear of the jinx you mention!
